About Me
Hi, I'm Simona!
I'm the human behind CanExplores. My journey into the dog training industry began following what is almost a “rite of passage” amongst canine professionals: fuelled by the “I have had dogs all my life” blissful ignorance, I took on a dog that made me question everything I thought I knew about dogs.
As someone who had been raised around shepherds, bull breeds and former street dogs, I severely underestimated the challenges of taking on an adolescent border collie x sprocker from a neglect case. Sandy struggled with almost every behavioural issue you can think of, but I was determined to do everything in my power to ensure she lived her best life. What started as independent research on canine behaviour and training quickly snowballed into taking countless courses, attending seminars, mentoring and shadowing under established dog trainers.
Fast forward nearly 8 years, I have organised and led group walks for More Paws, I recently graduated from a 6 month mentorship programme under Phoenix K9 USA, approaching completion of a level 4 diploma in Advanced Canine Behaviour from the British College of Canine Studies, receiving coaching under the STSK9 MVP programme, and spending my free time travelling up and down the country to shadow established dog trainers and gain further hands on experience. I also volunteer as a foster coordinator for Dogs Walk This Way Rescue, where I support and offer training guidance to volunteer fosterers.
